Core Staff

·         Captain Jack L Gaines USPHS (ret) As a marine biologist, Jack l Gaines spent more than thirty two years with state and national agencies doing bacteriological and other water and sea food quality studies.  During more than 25,000 hours in the field Jack worked with NOAA, EPA, Harbor Branch, University of Connecticut and many more state and private agencies.

·         Jack L. Gaines II Capt USMM  As a Merchant Marine Officer Jack L Gaines II has spent over twenty five years commercial fishing, working in the oil fields, working disaster recovery, and managing logistics.  “Jackie” has worked both coasts of the US, Central America, The Caribbean,   and the Northern coast of South America.  In addition to commercial work Jack has done numerous water qualities and sediment surveys for NOAA and the EPA and specializes in species retrieval.

Consultants

·         John D Rakovan Phd. Associate Professor, Department of Geology Miami University, Oxford, OH,  Research involves the integration of low temperature geochemistry and mineralogy in the study of crystal surfaces and water-rock interactions found in natural systems. In particular, environmentally significant processes such as crystal growth, metal sorption, trace element partitioning and other surface mediated reactions. Current research projects include: The role of crystal surface structure on trace element incorporation during growth; crystal chemistry of the lanthanides and actinides in apatite; crystal growth and trace element incorporation in fluorite and apatite; understanding fundamental interactions between aqueous metal species and soil minerals; structural transformations in clay minerals.

·         Monica Rakovan Watershed Coordinator University of Miami Ohio,  17 years of environmental experience in the private sector, federal and state governments and university systems. Currently, the watershed coordinator for the Twin Creek watershed in southwest Ohio and serve as the Project Manager for the Center for Sustainable Systems at the Institute of Environmental Sciences at Miami University.  Monica is currently pursuing a doctorate in hydrology at Miami University. Areas of specialty include hydrology, hydrologic modeling, water quality, grant writing, environmental education and outreach.

Marine Assets

All of the vessels in our  fleet are available for use in monitoring, sampling, survey and retrieval.  We are equipped for deep water sediment, shell fish, fin fish, water quality, and other forms of biological and mineral retrieval.

In addition we can supply:

·         Inspected passenger/research/fishing vessels

·         Heavy cargo

·         Self sustained off shore certified/licensed vessels for multi-day trips

·         Trailerable boats for coastal and inland work

·         Fast passenger/survey vessels for spot monitoring and personnel movement
